Becoming a Young Living member in August of 2014 was one of the best decisions I’ve made.

I mean not to be dramatic.

Better sleep.
Faster recovery from inevitable sickness.
Better moods.
No more toxins floating through our home.

It’s only been in the last year that I’ve really worked with essential oils and emotions. But it’s in research. It’s a fact. It may sound crazy, but it’s awesome. Check out Aroma Freedom Technique if you want to learn more about that.

Of course I used Stress Away (every mom NEEDS it) and Frankincense and Lavender, but beyond those three I didn’t do much else.

However, the last few years have been tough emotionally and I felt the need to make a safer space for my family as well. I was seeing a counselor, praying, and setting healthy boundaries. But it wasn’t until January of 2018 that I really began to focus on using oils to help with my big feelings and past experiences.

I decided to save up my Essential Rewards points and purchased the Young Living Feelings Kit for FREE! That’s right, I got six oils priced at $181 for FREE. Yippee!

I did a lot of research once the box arrived on my doorstep to learn how my emotions and experiences affect my health and body as a whole. On October 8, 2018 I began the Feeling Kit regimen. Nearly two months later, I can testify that it has helped immensely. I find my body actually craving these oils. When I apply them to their points, it feels like I can’t inhale them fast enough. I promise I’m not trying to sound dramatic or over the top. But I am loving how I feel after I apply them.

Before I share the Feelings Kit regimen, I need to get a little science-y with the science of scents.

“One of the most powerful healing aspects of essential oils is their ability to penetrate the so called “Blood-Brain Barrier.” When you breathe oil molecules into the back passages of your nose, they go straight to the brain in a central part called the amygdala (or diencephalon). This is the central headquarters of the limbic system, which manages the storage and filing system for all your emotional experiences. That part of the brain does not understand words and cannot be communicated to with spoken or written language. It responds only to smell. Science has proven time and again that emotional state has the power to change the body’s chemistry and that such changes in chemistry directly affect the immune system.

Google the correlation between our emotions and sickness.

The hypothalamus is a very important part of the brain. It controls body temperature, hunger, thirst, fatigue, sleep and circadian cycles. It releases hormones that affect different functions of the body. The production of growth hormones, sex hormones, thyroid hormones, and neurotransmitters (ie. serotonin) are all released from the hypothalamus. When inhaling the molecules of essential oils it directly affect these two parts of the brain and can stimulate hormone productions as well as emotions and feelings.

Now for the regimen: Six oils, seven steps

Step 1: Valor oil blend is an empowering combination of Spruce, Rosewood, Blue Tansy, and Frankincense essential oils. Renowned for its strengthening qualities and ability to align energy in the body.

Apply Valor to the feet as the first step of the Cleansing of feelings.

Affirmation Suggestion: “I am ready to transform my life” and/or “I am confident and secure in who I am and who my God is”. Reflect on what makes you feel insecure and release it!


Step 2: Harmony oil blend brings a harmonic balance to the energy centers of the body using Lavender, Sandalwood, and Ylang Ylang and other essential oils.

Apply Harmony on the chakra points to allow negative energy to escape. Where are the chakra points? Imagine a line going up your body from your pubis to the top of your head– there are 7 centers that move up that line:

1. Tailbone
2. Two inches below belly button
3. Two inches above belly button
4. Over the heart
5. Throat (or back of neck)
6. Center of forehead
7. Crown of head

Affirmation Suggestions: “My heart is open to give and receive love”. Try to keep your mind open to the Holy Spirit and take note of any thoughts which arise. Why did they show up? What do they mean?


Step 3: Forgiveness oil blend is an uplifting combination formulated with Melissa, Geranium, Frankincense, and other essential oils. Forgiveness allows the release of harmful memories and promotes a willingness to move forward.

Apply Forgiveness to the navel and let go of negative emotions.

Affirmation Suggestions: “I forgive {name} for any harm or hurt they have caused me and I release them to the Lord” or “I am thankful for life’s experiences and the lessons they teach”.


Step 4: Present Time oil blend promotes feelings of living in the moment. The blend of Neroli, Spruce, and other essential oils allow you to see the future with an open mind for new possibilities.

Apply Present Time to the wrists and behind the ears.

Affirmation suggestions: “I let go of my past” or “I experience the joy of the NOW”. Reflect on what holds you back from living in the moment. Why is it so significant?


Step 5: Release oil blend facilitates the ability to release anger and frustration using Ylang Ylang, Lavandin, Geranium, and other essential oils. Release promotes harmony and balance of the mind and body.

Apply over the liver and wait as feelings of frustration are uplifted.

Affirmation Suggestion: “I release all negativity from my body” or “I replace all negative feelings with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self control”.


Step 6: Inner Child oil blend stimulates memory response and helps reconnect with the authentic self. The combination of Orange, Tangerine, Jasmine, Lemongrass, Neroli, and other essential oils provide a sweet, childlike fragrance.

Apply 1–2 drops of Inner Child just under your nose to open the pathway to connecting with your inner self.

Affirmation Suggestion: “I am ready to face my inner child” or “My authentic self is enough because it’s who God made me to be”. Try to keep your mind open to your affirmation and investigate any thoughts which come up. Why did you think of that or feel a certain way? What significance does it have?


Step 7: Lastly, re-apply Valor essential oil to complete the Cleansing of feelings. Valor locks in the feelings of completeness and balance.


*You might want to journal your emotions during your 30 day period as there is a chance for a type of emotional detox. Journaling will help you be more self aware. Pay attention to the details.
